Rachael
Rachael Freed, LICSW, LFMT, mother of two and grandmother of eight, is a retired social worker and family therapist and a licensed secondary English teacher. She is the Founder of Life–Legacies, an author and experienced speaker, facilitator, trainer, and a contributor to the evolving definition of legacy and the practice of legacy writing.
Legacy writing is a pathway for people to find their deepest selves - to connect with ancestors, loved ones, and future generations - by sharing in writing their values, beliefs, stories , wishes and blessings.
Her service work includes 25 years reading for the blind at Talking Book, MN Services for the Blind; chairing Adult Learning for ten years at Temple Israel, Minneapolis, where she also served on the Interracial Task Force and on the Board. She served as a volunteer in the US Peace Corps in Tunisia where she taught English, worked in Family Planning with the Ford Foundation, and wrote English curriculum for the country. Rachael founded the first Death & Dying Program in Minnesota in 1975 at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis. She is retired from her psychotherapy practice of over 30 years.
She is a senior fellow of the Earl E. Bakken Center for Spirituality & Healing, at the University of Minnesota, the author of Your Legacy Matters; Women’s Lives, Women’s Legacies: Passing Your Beliefs & Blessings to Future Generations; The Legacy Workbook for the Busy Woman; and Heartmates: A Guide for the Partner and Family of the Heart Patient.
Recent presentations include AARP–New York, The Commonwealth Club of San Francisco, Sage-ing International, the Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC, andthe Los Angeles Jewish Philanthropy Foundation.
